Studio Upgrade
Gecko is now back up and running after some major renovations. The studio has recently been updated with a Protools system and C24 desk. The control room has been expanded - a long overdue blessing to both clients and staff. Not only does the room sound better, but it is also a larger, lighter and more comfortable space in which to create. A new vocal booth has also been added alongside the main studio (very nice for agoraphobic clients and those who miss the intimacy of the old control room.)
The Predicaments
Mastering of the new album for The Predicaments is currently underway and sounds great. Check them out and earn them .0004c a stream so they can pay the bills.Frisky Biscuit
The enigma that is Frisky Biscuit have released their debut single and it's a shocker - in a good way. Recorded, Mixed and Mastered at Gecko. Check it out here:Dr Effector
The infamous but reclusive Dr Effector has also returned to the desk with his fruity & idiosyncratic style firmly intact. The Doctor will be pumping out a new EP of original material VERY soon. Check out his latest chartstopper here:Lotek Mastering
The latest LOTEK CD has been mastered and should be available very soon. It sounds great and lovers of classic reggae, cranking hip hop and sharp lyrics should check it out. Take a look at the youtube video for "Control Alt Delete" for a taster or have a listen to some samples on Track 2 in the player above.
Voiceovers
Voiceover work has been in full swing recently and work for radio station 2UE, Channel 7, Botanical Alchemy and Heritage Healers has been going very well. Mike Jeffries and Simon Westaway have graced us with their golden tonsils and tested the microphone cabinet and the vocal acoustics with great results. Have a listen to their work on the voiceover demo above.
Rubix Demo Mix
The Rubix demo has been mixed and can be heard soon on their myspace site. They are an up and coming independent Sydney band playing their own brand of psychedelic pop which sounds powerful and fresh.
Monster Poetic Rock
Laurie Newsome is back in the studio doing drum tracks for his eclectic brand of poetic monster rock. Laurie is a stalwart of the Northern Tablelands music scene and his original material is unique, uplifting and powerful. Hopefully, we will soon have some sample tracks ready for download and a CD to follow.
New Mastering Suite
We have recently set up a mastering suite at the studio and mastering has been in full swing. The master floobydust has been liberally applied to the latest CD from Melbourne alternative Hip Hop artist, Clickjaw. We are also currently mastering album and single tracks for the new LOTEK CD. Both albums are sounding great and deserve a listen.
Paul Kelly
Scott Watkins-Sully and I have been busy mixing Paul Kelly "Live at the State Theatre". It was a powerful show and Paul and the band put on a 28 song marathon including the whole of his latest CD, "Stolen Apples", and most of his extensive list of hits. Special thanks to Nathan Kirchner for magical work on the transfers above and beyond the call of duty. Definitely check this out if you're a fan of the great man. It can be downloaded at:
Fred Canosa
Fred Canosa has resumed work on his solo CD after an enforced break and tracking is going well. So far, Fred and friends have put together an eclectic bunch of songs ranging from folk to country to hard rock. Now things are rolling again, Fred should be talking about a release date sometime in the new year.
